Overview

Over the years Chromate has been widely used as a surface preparation chemical in pretreatment across the various Sectors such as industrial and aerospace. Due to a change in governmenent legislation this chemical in now being banned from use and customers have to adapt their processes to use the more environmentally friendly chrome free chemical

Challenge

Our Customer, Superior Paint and Powder Coating customer contacted Membracon to assist with the challenge of adapting their process and increasing the production capacity of pure water. Thus enabling the change over from chromate to chrome free chemical by the deadline set out by the government.

Solution

Membracon won the contract to install a new 1.8m3hr Reverse Osmosis system complete with water softener, carbon filter, storage tanks and distribution pipework. With a low roof space for the installation of the storage tanks our design team implemented counterflow pipework for permeate to allow for a lower height tanks while still enabling access room for maintenance. Our Installation team carried out a very neat installation, re routing drain pipework to enable access to existing tank burners.

Results

The project was installed on time and despite a delay caused by the water supplier, our commissioning team were able to get the system operational and set up ready for the client to begin trails with the new chrome free chemical as part of their production process.

Our team worked incredibly well with the client and completed exactly the process system need to meet the customers specification. Membracon were delighted to be chosen for this project and enable another customer to switch to the more environmental chemical. Giving us both the opportunity to achieve our values and helps towards a greener future.
